J.F. Schroeder

	J. F. Schroeder, age 83, of Tucson, Ariz., died in the Eldorado Hospital in Tucson, Ariz. on Monday, August 20, 2001.
	He was born in Pinckneyville on October 4, 1917, the son of Charles and Sophia (Ahlers) Schroeder.  He was a graduate of the Pinckneyville schools and was a member of the P.C.H.S. basketball team that made the schools first trip to the state tournament in Champaign in 1935.
	He served in the 726th Railway Battalion in India during World War II.  Following his honorable discharge in January 1946, he went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad in Douglas, Ariz. and Tucson, Ariz. and later in El Paso, Tex.  To his co-workers in the west, he was known as Jake Schroeder.  To his classmates and friends in Pinckneyville, he was known as Flop Schroeder.  For the last two years, he had been living with his daughter, Pam, in Tucson, Ariz.
	 Survivors include two daughters, Debra Smith and husband Forrest Smith of Evergreen, Colo. and Pamela Schroeder of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Stacy Davis, Cindy Riordan and Todd Contreras; three great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
	He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Carl Schroeder and two sisters, Adele Schroeder and Helen Ziegler.
	Funeral services were held at the St. Paul United Church of Christ on Saturday, August 25, 2001 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Karen Stahr Terada officiating.  Interment was in the Mueller Hill Cemetery in Pinckneyville.
	Visitation was held at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until services.

	Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville was in charge of arrangements.
